Also, some sets are monitors only; they don't include speakers or a tuner for any type of analog (old style) or digital (new style) TV signal. Most new High definition sets should have a built in digital and analog tuner and may have high quality, if small, speakers. Check this by listening to the set in question... Turn up the volume! There is no clunky converter box with these sets, which is perfect for a wall-mounted plasma TV. Like conventional televisions, you can also choose to mount plasma TV's on a desktop stand. Make sure you protect you children and pets with an anti tip cable to the wall behind, because flat panels can overbalance easily, especially if a dog or child goes behind or in front of the set and pushes it far enough...
2: Or on your wall.

However, a plasma TV is a heavy unit to trust to bolts in drywall or sheetrock. Weighing in at 50 pounds or more, plasma TV's need adequate support and lots of ventilation because of the heat they generate. Naturally, you may want to check with a building pro if you are mounting one on your wall. Even placing the set on a table or A/V stand can be problematic. I have seen one go through the toughened glass of a unit that was rated much higher than the weight of the plasma that was placed on it. This did not happen until some months later. Go figure.
3: Picture quality varies considerably between different makes and models of plasma TV's, so be sure to read reviews before you go and lay down your hard earned.

Naturally, HD pictures look better the smaller or finer grained the pixels are, and the larger the screen, the more this applies. As an example, if you were to look at some cheaper Plasma sets, the screen looks quite coarse because the pixels are large. Kind of like a Newspaper picture, pictures are dotty or pixelly up close. (Use a magnifying glass on a color newspaper to see this effect) Sometimes visible to the naked eye as the "Screen Door effect" This is where the picture looks like the view through a screen door. The high pixel count of a High Definition plasma display provides fine detail for outstanding HD TV reproduction. The widescreen or 16:9 aspect ratio lets you enjoy DVD movies with a big theatre feel. Look for 720p or 1080p in the specifications and Don't buy HD ready TV sets.. 720p is great for sports and car racing shows because of the refresh rate... 1080p is better for quality and all round performance But a HDTV with 1080p and 120hz refresh or better has the technology to beat both of them...
4: How does a plasma display panel work?

In a plasma TV, the individual pixels or picture elements are filled with an inert gas such as neon or xenon. The effect is like a bunch of incredibly tiny red, green and blue flourescent lights, which through a trick of the eye, can produce a really beautiful picture. Of course, your regular TV does a similar thing, with an electron beam... But Cathode Ray Tubes can't be made as large or as thin as plasma, and probably never will be... And though there are great strides in that direction, for example SED, they won't be available anytime soon.. And, though plasma manufacturers have improved consumption requirements they consume a bit more power than your current old school set. It is wise to study reviews of the models you want, to learn the facts about specific models of Plasma HDTV before you consider making a purchase.
5: And don't forget ask about manufacturers warranty, and call your insurance company to insure your new Plasma HDTV in case it is stolen or accidentally broken.

But now, LCD technology has been creeping into plasma's domain, with good quality sets as large as 70 inches. The popular 40 to 60 inch size range is now a battlefield of technology, and it's starting to look like LCD will win that battle.

With the recent improvements in LCD picture quality, many of plasma's advantages are losing significance. The technology shift is hitting plasma manufacturers in the bottom line: profit margins on plasma HDTVs are dropping and many manufacturers, such as LG Electronics, are even eliminating some of their plasma TV production lines.

Plasma has been considered superior to LCD for a long time. It produces more vivid colors and sharper contrast, so movies with dark scenes look better. It can change images more quickly, so fast-moving sports look more fluid and continuous on a plasma screen. Many online HDTV buyer's guides are listing new plasmas, with two-year-old technology, for half retail price. These plasma HDTVs are still excellent, and the future of the industry should have no bearing on that. Plasma TV still has a nearly fanatical following of people who consider it the best picture money can buy.

The take-away lesson is that, if you are looking for a set with top quality in the 40 to 60 inch range, you should now seriously consider an LCD HDTV. And if you're looking to save a thousand dollars or so, look for a current (but not the latest) plasma model.

Does Toshiba Make Good HDTV?

In short the answer is yes. Take for example Toshiba REGZA 37HL67 a 37-inch 720p LCD HDTV that received plenty of good consumer reviews thanks to it's excellent display quality even though it is a mere 720p LCD instead of a full HD (1080p) TV. HDTV Buying Guide 2011

There are many different factors that come into play with regards to HDTV picture quality. I will go over a few of the things to look for when you are researching Flat Screen TV's. Of course there is the price issue. This should be your first criterion when searching for an HDTV.

Most people think BIG, when they think of Flat Panel HDTV. If you are more concerned with screen size than picture quality then perform a product search on a shopping search engine for HDTV's at 50"+. Then sort the results by price. If you see several Flat Panel TV's that fall within your budget you're on the right track, if not you need to think about a smaller screen.

If you have a limited budget and picture quality is what you're after then there are numerous things to consider. If you want a light weight, thin HDTV you should be looking at LCD HDTV's and Plasma. There are also LCD televisions that are illuminated by light emitting diodes (LED). These are the most energy efficient HDTV's, but they are expensive.

An interesting note about LCD versus Plasma HDTV's. LCD tv's do not produce as true of blacks as Plasma HDTV's, unless you go with an LED LCD tv. As I mentioned earlier the LED HDTV's are much more expensive than the normal backlit LCD versions, but you will see much richer colors and deeper blacks.

Many people are more interested in picture size and picture quality than they are in how slim the screen is. For the highest picture quality and picture size you may want to look at Digital Light Processing (DLP) televisions. DLP tv's are rear projection units that use micro mirrors on a semi conductor chip to rapidly reflect light. In some Mitsubishi Laservue televisions they use laser light for the color. DLP HDTV's can be bright, clear, full 1080p resolution and they make fabulous 3D HDTV's. You can have all this at a fraction of the price of an LCD HDTV. The only draw back is power consumption and bulk. These TV's do have a significant footprint, but you can purchase an 80" 3D HDTV for under 00.00!

Now onto resolution. Currently, HDTV's come in two resolutions, 720p and 1080p. The number reference is to the vertical scan lines of resolution. This is based on the assumption of a 16:9 aspect ratio and 1920 horizontal resolution of 1920 pixels. The "p" does not refer to pixels however, but refers to progressive. Progressive means that a line is produced for every refresh cycle. Older HDTV's, and current regular tv's, use interlace "i", which means a line is created every other refresh cycle.

You may think that you have to have a full 1080p resolution HDTV, but that may not be the case. If you are going to purchase an HDTV with a screen size under 40" 1080p is not going to make that big of a difference. Another item to mention is that currently, neither cable nor satellite broadcast programming in full 1080p. They broadcast HDTV in 720p, so at the moment, the only way to utilize full 1080p is to use a Blue-ray disc player.

Finally, the last item to consider is refresh rate. If you intend to watch action movies or sports you will need a TV with a fast refresh rate. LCD HDTV's on the lower price scale use 60 Hz refresh rates, which will result in a lot of motion blur with high speed scenes. The next step up for an LCD tv is 120 Hz. This will result in a much smoother picture, but will cost a lot more money. Many manufacturers are now making simulated 240 Hz refresh rates for LCD tv's, but the jury is out on the added benefits. Plasma HDTV's on the other hand do well at fast motion scenes with the base 60 Hz refresh rate, but there are higher end models with a 600 Hz subfield, which results in movie theater quality crispness and flow in high speed action scenes. Modern DLP HDTV's don't suffer from motion blur.

As a final point I suggest you read flat screen tv reviews from actual customers. Many sites that sell televisions allow customers to leave feedback. If you do purchase a flat screen tv please leave feedback throughout the internet to help others in their quest for the ultimate HDTV buying experience.

Vizio VX32L 323 LCD HDTV Review

The Vizio 32″ LCD HDTV cost around 0 or so, depending on where you buy it. I bought mine from Sam's Club at around 0. I also purchased the wallmount for it. This is my first HDTV LCD TV that I have ever owned and I love it. It has dual HDMI output connections as well as VGA output connection to hook it to your PC or what not. I have hooked this up to my PC via DVI connection and the quality isn't as good as I thought it would be, but still very good. If you get the perfect resolution set for this TV it would look flawless, especially with HDMI. The max resolution for the Vizio 32″ is 1366 x 768 resolution. The HDMI cables run about 0, thats why I have not hooked this up via HDMI yet.

I currently have Dishnetwork (Non-HD) connected to my TV. If you are far away the TV looks EXCELLENT. When you get closer is when you start to see more of the pixels, but this is obviously caused by not having DishNetwork HD, and HDMI cables hooked up. My personal opinion on this TV is that for the price, you can not beat 0 for a 32″ Hi-Definition TV. The TV has the capability to remove the base to allow mounthing on the wall. There are about 10 screws or so to fully mounth this TV to the wall. It was not much of a task at all. Pretty simple.

TVs are getting bigger!

10 years ago, I would've looked at a big screen TV and wondered if I would ever own such a thing. I always believed that they were too expensive and only high class wealthy people could only afford it. But then again, that was 10 years ago. Prices have come down drastically since and the size of the screens have ever so gotten bigger. It seems like anything less than a 50? HDTV is too small. However, there's always a price to pay. With bigger screens, the energy consumption of these televisions have skyrocketed. Not to make it seem like they've become less energy efficient over the years, it's just that bigger things usually require more power to make them operational. Since more and more people are buying bigger TV's these days, the government took notice and Energy Star even revised their standard for TV energy efficiency.

Energy Star Specifications For Televisions

On September 3, 2009, Energy Star finalized their updated specifications for televisions. Version 4.0 goes into effect on May 1, 2010 and Version 5.0 goes into effect 2 years later in 2012. To be Energy Star rated, the television must meet these new specification requirements.

The Energy Star requirement for TV's greater than 50 inches will be that of 50-in TV category. If 72-inch HDTV meets all of the requirements of 50-in category, then it will receive an Energy Star label. So, Version 5.0 televisions will be 55-65% more efficient than those that are being used today. Today, an average American home houses just over 2 TVs. There are over 112 million households in the United States, which equates to approximately 225 million TV currently being watched everyday in America. Energy Star website approximates at 250 million TVs in America today. That's a lot of televisions and the new specifications will help reduce a lot of kilowatts consumed!!

Most Energy Efficient HDTVs I love Cnet.com for their thorough research and product testing for whatever technological product you may be looking for. I did a simple search in their website for most energy efficient televisions and they recently posted an article describing just that. I will summarize their findings here for you.

The Samsung UN55B8500 55-Inch 1080p 240 Hz LED HDTV is not for just anyone, as it boasts a ,000 price tag. However, it did deliver the best picture quality of any LCD tested by Cnet.com. Its tested operational power consumption of 136 watts is excellent given the size of the TV. It's estimated annual operational cost is just .

The Sharp AQUOS LC46LE700UN 46-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LED HDTV is more affordable than the Samsung above, listed at under ,400. This is rated as the most energy efficient of its kind, but the picture lighting quality was just average. The operational power consumption was tested at 102 watts and the estimated annual cost is about .

The Samsung UN46B6000 46-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LED HDTV is comparable to the Sharp above, listed at around ,600. This TV gets a high rating for its style, but the performance is just average by its standards. The operational power consumption was tested at 106 watts and /year in energy costs.

The VIZIO VF551XVT 55-Inch XVT-Series TruLED 240 Hz SPS HDTV provides excellent quality for the buck, listed at ,200. The operational power consumption was tested at 162 watts with estimated energy costs at around /year.

The LG 47LH90 47-Inch 1080p 240Hz LED Backlit LCD HDTV is listed at ,800 and provides extreme color and picture due to its backlit feature. The tested operational power consumption was 141 watts, costing you about /year in energy costs.

The Sony BRAVIA VE5-Series KDL-46VE5 46-Inch is not equipped with LED technology, but the price tag of about ,200 and the picture quality performance are still respectable. The operational power consumption was tested at 125 watts with estimated energy costs at /year.

So, there you have it. If you're in the market for a big screen HDTV, why don't you consider going green and buy an eco-friendly, energy-efficient HDTV?
